Christmas 2008

‘Twas a cold and frosty night, just before Christmas, when over 200 people turned out to fill Holy Trinity Church in Schull for the West Cork Choral Singers’ Christmas concert. The programme was filled with traditional carols, some not so often heard, including the Irish ‘Dia do bheath’a naoidhe naoimh’.

The main work of the evening was Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughan-Williams. This was not without a little drama, as the soloist Colin Vearncombe was struck down with a chest infection and unable to perform. Choir member Urs Feurer stepped in at short notice and did the choir proud. We were also treated to solo perfomances by Camilla Griehsel and cellist Alan Thomas. During the interval the choir and friends served wine and mince pies which were much appreciated by the audience.
