West Cork Choral Singers

‘Twas a cold and frosty night, just before Christmas, when over 200 people turned out to fill the Holy Trinity Church in Schull, for West Cork Choral Singers Christmas Concert. The programme was filled with traditional carols, and some not so often heard, including the Irish “Dia do bheath’ a naoidhe naoimh”.

The main work of the evening was “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” by Ralph Vaughan-Williams. This was not without a little drama. The soloist, Colin Vearncombe,was struck down with a chest infection and unable to perform. We wish Colin a speedy recovery. Choir member, Urs Feurer , stepped in at short notice, and did the choir proud. We were also treated to solo perfomaces by Camilla Griehsel, and ‘Cellist Alan Thomas. At half time the choir and friends served wine and mince pies. A good time was had by all.
